Description: Anxiety has traditionally been conceptualized as pathological and maladaptive. This workshop attempts to reintroduce anxiety in a nuanced manner that encompasses its physical, behavioral, emotional, and psychological manifestations from westernized and Indigenous perspectives. Additionally, participants will learn coping strategies for anxiety to incorporate into their clinical practice. CEs are available for NYS LCSWs.
- Participants will be introduced to anxiety through Western, Indigenous, and culturally humble lenses.
- Participants will identify the roots of anxiety and the symptoms of anxiety.
- Participants will learn how to help their clients shift their relationship with anxiety to be less pathological and stigmatizing.
- Participants will learn how to utilize traditional and nontraditional techniques to decrease symptoms of anxiety in their clinical practices.
